20-02-08 TONIGHTS SHOW

Soisceal Pháraic  TX  20th February Wednesday 9.00PM

This week Soiscéal Pháraic delves into the extraordinary life of J.G Ballard with the release of his memoir, Miracles of Life.  Páraic  and his guests have a lively and thought-provoking discussion about Ballard’s journey in which he recounts the experiences that fundamentally shaped his writing, from his internment in Langhua camp as a child during the Second World War to his arrival to a devastated post- war Britain where he began his life as a writer and a single father after the tragic death of his wife. The show also features archive footage of Ballard from a couple of years ago where he talks about his life and times.

Páraic’s guests this week are the  Irish author Lorcan O’ Treasaigh, the presenter of No Place Like Home, Bob Kelly, and lecturer and writer Caitríona Ní Chérchín.

Páraic and his guests also explore new works by German artist Rosa Barba and her collaboration with Croatian artist David Maljkovic in  Handed Over an exhibition currently running at the Project Arts Gallery. Barba has invited David Maljkovic to collaborate with her in a dual project investigating their completely different approaches to narrative and story-telling using a series of images and texts.

The panel also looks at the debut album release by up and coming Irish band, La Rocca, called  The Truth and the latest album by Mary McPartlan, The Loose Petticoats. Mary performs a song from the album in the studio.

Soiscéal Pháraic is also happy to announce a fantastic photography competition. We invite viewers to submit original photographs they have taken on the them of Ireland in the 21st century. The winner will receive a fantastic prize – an exhibition of his or her photographs in both Galway and Dublin AND a camera worth 1200 Euro from Bermingham’s Camera Shop in Dublin.
